Meet Melissa: Florida-based ER doctor by day, lady angler by night!
Reel Girls: What type of fishing do you prefer? Saltwater or freshwater? (or both!)
Melissa: “I prefer saltwater fishing!”
Reel Girls: When did you start fishing and what do you love about it?
Melissa: “I’ve been fishing since I was three years old. I love my time on the water – it’s the best way I’ve found to relax. I also love the element of surprise while fishing. You NEVER know what may be on the other end of the line and you truly NEVER know what you are going to see in a day on the water.”
Reel Girls: What is your go-to/favorite fishing gear set up while out on the water?
Melissa: “I love my Cajun rods (Coastal, Savannah and Hella-Bomb). I have three and will probably not ever buy another brand. They are the most sensitive rods and have made a huge difference in me catching fish. I have them paired with different KastKing Kodiak reels (3000-5000). Between those three rods, I’ve caught all sorts of species ranging from redfish to a huge sailfish!”
Reel Girls: What is the most desired species of fish that you want to catch but haven’t yet?
Melissa: “I”ve never caught a wahoo or a cobia. Those are next on my list! I’ve also never learned to fly fish. So that’s on my current to-do list.”
Reel Girls: When you’re not fishing, what can we find you doing?
Melissa: “When I’m not fishing, I’m typically working. I’m an ER doctor at an academic hospital, so I get to teach other doctors and take care of patients.”
Reel Girls: Random fact about yourself – GO!
Melissa: “Catching lobster is my favorite pastime. Maybe even more than fishing.”
