Meet Kendra: Alaska-based barista and lover of all things water and fishing!
Reel Girls: What type of fishing do you prefer? Saltwater or freshwater? (or both!)
Kendra: “Both! I fish pretty equal amounts of both depending on the season.”
Reel Girls: When did you start fishing and what do you love about it?
Kendra: “I grew up with parents who moved to Alaska because of fishing and hunting and have been around both my whole life. We mainly fished for salmon growing up, and Halibut when the weather was nice. I love being on the open water, being able to go to new places, and nothing beats when you hook into a fish and it starts pulling line like crazy. It’s exciting bringing the fish to shore or onto the boat and not knowing what’s on the other end of your line!”
Reel Girls: What is your go-to/favorite fishing gear set up while out on the water?
Kendra: “For Salt water I’ve been loving my Shimano Trevala rod with my Okuma Cold Water Reel. For fresh water I have a pretty large variety of both, I can’t pick just one!”
Reel Girls: What is the most desired species of fish that you want to catch but haven’t yet?
Kendra: “I have never caught a Steelhead and I also really want to catch a Grayling! Both are in my top fish to catch.“
Reel Girls: When you’re not fishing, what can we find you doing?
Kendra: “I’m a barista for Kaladi Brother’s Coffee and I spend most of my time there when I’m not fishing. I also love cooking, reading books, and taking photos.”
Reel Girls: Random fact about yourself – GO!
Kendra: “I plan to start college this fall for a business degree to eventually open my own daycare!”
