Meet Dora: Louisiana-based environmental map specialist by day, lady angler by night!

Reel Girls: What type of fishing do you prefer? Saltwater or freshwater? (or both!)

Dora: “I like saltwater and freshwater equally.  I consider myself a multi-species angler who enjoys continuously refining her skill set to catch bigger and tastier fish.”

Reel Girls: When did you start fishing and what do you love about it?

Dora: “I was holding a fishing rod in my hand before I could even walk.  My Father was an avid tournament fisherman who was well known in Alabama for taking home first prize in almost every bass tournament he entered.  This has contributed to my competing streak and ongoing commitment to improving my abilities while fishing.   I enjoy the fact that fishing is a passion that you can continuously learn about and find like minded people to connect with in an instant!”

Reel Girls: What is your go-to/favorite fishing gear set up while out on the water?

Dora: “When I am freshwater fishing, my go-to is a wacky worm rig and/or spinner bait.  I take pride in my ability to use a baitcaster and spinning reel with the same standard cast length and accuracy.  Saltwater fishing- the bigger, the better!  I have recently been chasing the bull reds in Louisiana.  The fight is an exhilarating experience! “

Reel Girls: What is the most desired species of fish that you want to catch but haven’t yet?

Dora: “My aim for saltwater is to catch a blue marlin one day.  I already have a black marlin under my belt.  That was a wonderful day out on the water!  I could not stop grinning in excitement!  For my freshwater goal, my summer ambition is to catch an alligator gar as big as I am.”

Reel Girls: When you’re not fishing, what can we find you doing?

Dora: “When I am not fishing, I am probably either at work creating maps and programming or I am busy with the women’s rights groups I am involved in at the admin level.  Taking pride in my work and creating a platform for women to freely express themselves is important to me.”
